Blue glitter tips & pink leopard side NOTD

It's been a while since I did any leopard print...

And we all know how much of a winner glitter nail polish is!

I used a base layer of Max Factor Nailfinity See Through Peach and then sponged OPI Absolutely Alice onto the tips.

Then I used a dotting tool with OPI My Address is Hollywood to draw random spots on one half of each of my nails. I finished off the leopard print with Inglot Nail Art Enamel in 036 Black to outline the spots.

I sealed my design with two coats of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

I think the leopard print only down one side of the nail gives it more sophistication but the colours and glitter keep my manicure cute and fun!

One of the girls at work thought my nails were done professionally :)
That's when you know you're doing something right.

What do you think of these??

Sunset Dolphin NOTD

*this design was inspired by cutepolish*

Dolphins are something I adore. They're beautiful, intelligent creatures that I've always liked and I fulfilled my dream of swimming with dolphins in Florida when I was 11!

Anyway, back to the nails. I think these are rather cute.

I began by applying a layer of OPI Dim Sum Plum over my nails.

Then using a make up sponge, I used one stripe of OPI Dim Sum Plum, then one stripe of Models Own Hedkandi Hedonist in the middle and then one stripe of Topship Nails in Bee's Knees at the bottom. I then sponged each nail using this so get a sunset gradient effect.

I then used my Inglot Nail Art Enamel Polish in 036 Black to draw the dolphins. I used the striper brush end to draw a banana like body, then added the flipper, dorsal fin and tail flukes. I think two dolphins per hand is enough as you get statement nails.

Then, being me, I needed some glitter so I used GOSH Magic Star to add a sheer holographic shimmer.

To finish off, I applied Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.

What do you think of these dolphins??

Hope you try them out - a lot easier than you think :D

Love love and dolphinlove!!

Hedonist Butterflies NOTD

This is Models Own Hedonist from the Hedkandi collection.

This bright matte shade has been plastered over the blogging world recently. I first saw it in the bottle store in Westfield White City and knew instantly that I had to have it.

I don't own many matte nail polishes but I do love the love of the finish. However, matte polish is far less resilient so I will mostly apply a layer (or two) of a strong top coat to make sure my manicure lasts me!

Originally, I tried using a konad-like stamper set to create some white butterfly patterns but the white didn't come out very opaque on top of the hedonist.

After the stamping, I took a leaf out of Leanne's (Do Not Refreeze) book and layered over Models Own Tropical Sun - a beautiful sheer duo chrome peachy gold polish which almost brings the colour alive.

However, in real life, you couldn't really see the white butterflies so I decided to remove my design and play with black and white decals. This is definitely more what I was going for!

(I think flat sticker decals are great! They look so perfect and if you use the right top coat, they don't even look like stickers and last for about a week)

Do you own this polish? What do you think of the shade?

Love love and hedonistlove!!

Patriotic Jubilee NOTD

I'm so glad my OPI Jubilee Nail Polish set came in time!

(However, somehow these polishes look a little too Captain America than Union Jack!)

So this design was mainly to showcase my two new OPI colours - DS Magic and DS Bold.

DS Bold is a sheer red polish with glitters that are more of a pinky-silver. To get the opaque look above I had to paint some plain red polish underneath. It's not my favourite polish but nevertheless a nice one to have in my collection.

However, DS Magic is beautiful. I really wish the camera could pick up the multi-tonal shades that it has. From afar, it does look like your average shiny blue but when you really look at it you can see it has somewhat duo-chrome properties, bringing out glimmers of purples and even teals!

Anyway, a step-by-step guide has been created in case you want to create this look:

Step 1: White Base.

I used Revlon 050 White On White but I think it's drying out a little as the application isn't so smooth anymore. I used two coats for this opacity.

Step 2: Blue Lines

With the use of the polish brush (this is the only time the pro-wide brushes aren't so helpful), I striped two layers of DS Magic down the centre of each nail. I only used thin coats, building up my polish to the desired opacity by just wiping the brush thoroughly before application.

Step 3: Red tips

Because DS Bold is too sheer to show a true red and cover the blue sufficiently, I used Maybelline Express Finish Lacquer in 505L Cerise Cherry as a base red.

Step 4: Adding glitter.

This is where a couple of sheer coats of DS Bold come in.

And then, top it all off with some strong top coat.

It's not perfectly straight lines, but they can be forgiven.

Flash!

Long love the Queen!!!

Have you painted your nails red, white and blue for the Diamond Jubilee festivities?

Love love and Jubilieelove!!
